The best performing regional minister in Ghana Hon Dr Biochemist Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah  received Mr. Bice Obour Osei Kuffour, the Acting Managing Director of Ghana Post Limited at my office, the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC), Sekondi on the 21st January 2022. His visit was for Ghana Post to deepen its collaborative relationship with the WRCC which is essential for their operations in the Western Region.

They discussed how best the services (postal, courier and financial services) of Ghana Post Limited could be promoted, in the quest to achieve its objectives. He submitted during our discussions that, Western Region is going through focused and deliberate infrastructural transformation which will easily help Ghana Post to gladly extend its services to our remote areas inline with their objective of “to expand postal network to viable areas”.

Hon kobby submitted also that, Western Region has many of its indigenes in the diaspora therefore, the WRCC will as a matter of priority work closely with Ghana Post to ensure the resilience of their financial services especially the remittance service.

Furthermore,he encouraged them to grow to be like Japan Post with their vast asset base because they cannot continue to play second fiddle to any courier service.




The President of Wassa Hemaa Foundation and Chairperson of the Minerals Commission Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, has organised her Annual Christmas and New Year party for children in the PresteaHuni-ValleyMunicipality.

As per the convention during her tenure as Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi on Thursday , January 6th, 2022 held the party at Atwereboada where she interacted with over five Hundred (500) children from Atwereboada, Amanful, Nsuaem, Nyamease and other nearby communities.

The children were served with food, drinks and other delicacies such as cakes, chocolates, chips and doughnuts amid lots of fun activities.

She also provided the children with various toys such as laser race cars, light up balls, Santa hats, bubble blasters, water guns etc and an inflatable Bouncy Castle for their enjoyment.

In her Address, the former legislator urged the children to take their studies seriously inorder to benefit from the free SHS policy when they are ready for secondary education to ensure their personal career development to make them useful citizens in future.

She admonished them to desist from going wayward and advised them to be obedient to their parents at all times.

Nana Kofi Anyam, the Abusuapanin of Atwereboada on behalf of the community expressed appreciation to Mrs. Oteng-Gyasi for selecting the town as the beneficiary community for the Annual Children’s Party.

Accompaining her, was the constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party in the Prestea Huni – Valley constituency.

Early this year,1st of January, 2022, Hon Dr Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah spent the ‘new year’ with the good people of Opon Valley at Amenfi in the Western Region.

He celebrated their ‘Home Coming’ and Yam Festival with the Traditional heads and the entire community. In his address he stated that as people of the Western Region, we are very unique in our diversity. He felt welcomed and understood that it was the first time a sitting Regional Minister had visited their community.

He entreated the good people of the community to remain peaceful because it is the best ingredient for their development.
He donated 200 bags of cement as a support for the construction of their Community Youth Centre.

Masquerade Festival electrified our beloved Region once again.

On 25th December 2021, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis was raptured, as we organized another Masquerade Carnival on our principal street. It ignited economic activities, brought in tourists and great display of skills and art. Various masquerade groups used the occasion to itemize their social projects and interventions for their members and the communities.

The occasion also served as ‘an instrument’ to reunite us, as our brethren from the diaspora also patronized. We look forward to witnessing a much bigger festival next year as the dreadful pandemic subsides.



On Friday, 24th December 2021, Hon Kobby launched the Third Edition of Western Xmas Trade Fair and Expo 2021 at the forecourt of the Takoradi Mall. His statement on the day was not different from the position he has held and stood for when it comes to business and trade. Private sector focus through public sector engineering to constantly create the enabling and conducive business climate for growth and success.

He indicated that, the Western Xmas Trade fair and Expo 2021 offers Small and Medium Scale Enterprises the opportunity to promote and sell their products as well as to meet potential investors to help grow their businesses in the Region. Although, by attestation, COVID-19 has adversely affected economies all over the world; Big or Small businesses alike, to revamp, no business activity should be ignored. There is therefore the need to promote Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises in the wake of the current global economic downturn.

He submitted that, national policies and programmes, since we assumed office, have typically been drafted through participatory processes, to address critical challenges in the country. Sector-based policies, action plans, and regulations are consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Ghana Beyond Aid agenda has since not been occasioned as just a mantra but a deliberate call to drive all and sundry along a path of ‘business self-actualization’. Under my leadership, the WRCC, since April 2019 has focused on 3 pillars as our contribution to the spirited Ghana Beyond Aid call: the Enterprise Western Region, Entrepreneurial Governance and Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) + Youth Empowerment.

He reiterated that Western Region has all it takes to create the needed wealth and prosperity. He urged all, especially the youth to be mindful of the “YouStart” initiative, as an avenue of support for their start-ups as well as already established small and medium-scale businesses. He encouraged all to be business minded because our focus and target must be production, productivity and wealth creation.


’Christmas signifiers a season of merry making and giving. And most at times the poor and the disabled are left out in the Christmas festivities which makes them feel inferior.

The DCE for Mpohor Hon Ignatius Asaah Mensah said, he elated to have always celebrated Christmas with the poor and the disabled in the communities and suburbs in his district.

Yesterday, the 24th of December 2021, he distributed various economic employment items to people living with disability in all the suburbs in the Mpohor district.

Speaking to reporter,he said it affords great joy when he see genuine smiles on the faces of these people living with disability in his district during festive season.

The people living with various forms of disability received the items with joy and thanked the assembly for remembering them and prayed for long life of their DCE and the president as well.

They prayed that God should bless the DCE so that every year they will smile.

It very sad that after taking the opportunity of the government flagship program free SHS and performing excellently a needy but brilliant student will become an OKADA driver,this is the nightmare of Evans Takpolley a student of BAIDOO BONSO SENIOR HIGH/TECH SCHOOL in the Jomoro district of the western region.

After checking his results he publicly praised the government for giving him such an appointment after JHS knowing very well that her parent couldn’t afford to take him to SHS if not for this free SHS policy, he lamented.

He said after showing his excellent WASSCE results to his parents having had 6As and 2Bs his parents who are farmers at Agyeza a suburb in the Jomoro District told him they can’t afford to take him to the university because they are poor and that he should start with riding OKADA since it a lucrative business in that area. He wept uncontrollably speaking to reporters of

He said,he is now looking up to God and any well meaning Ghanaian to come to his aid. He said if the government will wipe out his tears by granting him scholarship to study at the tertiary level he will be grateful.

He ended by commending the government for implementing the free SHS policy.

He visited the young inventor popularly referred to as “inventor 1” on Monday, December 6, 2021 at his workshop. He took time to go through his collection and  was amazed at the level of Innovation displayed by such a young promising gentleman.

In order to empower the youth of Prestea/ Huni-Valley Constituency in different modules of apprenticeship programme,the former Member of Parliament for Prestea /Huni- Valley Constituency, Hon Barbara Oteng Gyasi who is the current Board Chairperson of Minerals Commission of Ghana sponsorsed 30 youth from Huni-Valley for three years training in Dressmaking and Hair dressing skills.

The sponsorship entailing all logistics and total cost for the training was fully funded by Hon Barbara Oteng Gyasi as part of her vision to encourage and assist youth to acquire Entrepreneurial skills through apprenticeship programmes.

During the recent Graduation by the Ghana Hairdressers And Beautician Association(GHABA), a total of 14 comprising 5 hairdressers and 9 dressmakers out of the 30 fully sponsored youth received a dryer and one thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC1,000) each for the Hair dressers.
Likewise the Nine(9) dressmakers received an industrial Machine each to facilitate setting up of a business entreprise. A further one hundred youth from across the constituency were also sponsored for training at Takoradi in collaboration with Aseda Foundation and are expected to graduate shortly.

During her tenure the Municipality benefited from a Skills Training Center (a World Bank funded project) which is currently progressing steadily at Huni-Valley, a State of the Art TVET school awarded for construction around Samahu by Ghana Government as well as SkillsTraining Centre funded by her foundation, Wassa-Hemaa Foundation under construction at Wassa Nkran.

Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi has never relented on her commitment to contribute significantly to the development of the Constituency as she donated items worth GHC20,000 to the Association of persons with disability, initiated the rehabilitation of Aboso Brigade school, distributed laptops to University students and many other initiatives and support to the vulnerable within the Constituency thereby impacting and changing lives.
