In order to empower the youth of Prestea/ Huni-Valley Constituency in different modules of apprenticeship programme,the former Member of Parliament for Prestea /Huni- Valley Constituency, Hon Barbara Oteng Gyasi who is the current Board Chairperson of Minerals Commission of Ghana sponsorsed 30 youth from Huni-Valley for three years training in Dressmaking and Hair dressing skills.
The sponsorship entailing all logistics and total cost for the training was fully funded by Hon Barbara Oteng Gyasi as part of her vision to encourage and assist youth to acquire Entrepreneurial skills through apprenticeship programmes.
During the recent Graduation by the Ghana Hairdressers And Beautician Association(GHABA), a total of 14 comprising 5 hairdressers and 9 dressmakers out of the 30 fully sponsored youth received a dryer and one thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC1,000) each for the Hair dressers.
Likewise the Nine(9) dressmakers received an industrial Machine each to facilitate setting up of a business entreprise. A further one hundred youth from across the constituency were also sponsored for training at Takoradi in collaboration with Aseda Foundation and are expected to graduate shortly.
During her tenure the Municipality benefited from a Skills Training Center (a World Bank funded project) which is currently progressing steadily at Huni-Valley, a State of the Art TVET school awarded for construction around Samahu by Ghana Government as well as SkillsTraining Centre funded by her foundation, Wassa-Hemaa Foundation under construction at Wassa Nkran.
Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi has never relented on her commitment to contribute significantly to the development of the Constituency as she donated items worth GHC20,000 to the Association of persons with disability, initiated the rehabilitation of Aboso Brigade school, distributed laptops to University students and many other initiatives and support to the vulnerable within the Constituency thereby impacting and changing lives.
