On behalf of Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources,  the deputy minister of lands and natural who also doubles as the member of parliament for the good people of Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency  Hon. George Mireku Duker inaugurated a Task force to curb Gold smuggling.

Since mid-2020, available data gathered by regulatory institutions of the mining industry shows that, there have been a drastic decline in gold export volumes from the small-scale mining sector of Ghana which has led to massive loss of revenues to the state.

Among other reasons, the cause of the rise in smuggling of Ghana’s Gold is believed to be as a result of a direct reaction to the 3% withholding tax on gold purchase by PMMC.

He indicated that, government’s commitment in ensuring that, the situation is brought to a complete halt and asked the Taskorce to live up to expectations.

The Taskforce consists of officials of Minerals Commission, Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Immigration Service, National Security Council, National Intelligence Bureau and Ghana Boundaries Commission.

He once again charged the various stakeholders to put all hands on deck to sanitize the gold mining industry in ensuring that, necessary proceeds due our Country is received towards economic growth.

Subsequent consultations are set to be held in regards to this alliance.

Together, we will make the Ghana Small-scale Mining Industry better.
